Four Commons and a Mill in March

Anne writes that Stuart led 9 of us and Fred the dog on the 8-mile Four Commons and a Mill walktaking in Rodborough, Milford, Thursley and Witley Commons.

Walking across heather and bracken covered heathland and through varied woodland we took in some great views including those toward the Hogs Back, the Cosford Mill (dating back to the 1440s)and tiny glimpses of the lake that hides the underwater ballroom of Witley Park.

We were treated to interesting birdsong, fungi and winding river beds whilst taking the chance to further hone our map reading skills.

Despite this walk being described as ‘easily accessible with footpaths and bridleways that are clearly marked, you can’t get lost’ we became intrepid explorers for a short while and incorporated some of the hidden treasures not commonly seen on this very enjoyable walk.
