SUMMARY:Day walk 8 September
DESCRIPTION:Linda and Stuart’s walk on the 8th of September is a 10 miler starting at 10 AM at the pond in Shamley Green (GR 033437). It is next to the Red Lion pub and parking is around the pond area. The walk takes in parts of the Greensand Way and Downs Link. There is a pretty place for lunch in Hascombe at seating around the village pond and the White Horse (just a short way beyond) serves excellent food.\nLinda and Stuart did the walk recently and grade it as easy with no steep hills.

DESCRIPTION:This year’s August bank holiday camping trip is ON and will be at Arymwny campsite in Pembrokeshire. \nWe have used this lovely site before\, very remote and peaceful\, and good coastal walking.  Quiet family site with minimal fuss\, each pitch has its own bonfire site and tap.  Facilities basic but functional\, free charging points and fridges for ice packs\, firewood for sale! SUMMARY:Club Scottish holiday\, Newtonmore
DESCRIPTION:Tony’s report: Our Scottish highlands trip this year was an excellent week in a roomy well-equipped ex-hotel.  Weather far better than last year\, good walking every day except one with gales\, and even that was good for low-level exploring.  Landscape not the most dramatic\, but many new Munros gained on some longish days.  Dry weather previously treated us to dried up bog and easy river crossings\n\n \nWe broke the mould this year with seven off us taking bikes to make the long hikes in more achievable.  This worked well so probably to be repeated\, probably with a more comfy saddle for Adrian……\n \nNice mix this year of communal cook-ins\, and some good food at the local hotel in Newtonmore.

SUMMARY:18-20 May 2018: North Wales – Tan y Garth hut\, Capel Curig
DESCRIPTION:Last visited in 2015\, a return to this hut in a former chapel in the excellent Snowdonia base of Capel Curig. \nWe’ve stayed at this hut before (Tan y Garth at SH737568). The village’s facilities and Moel Siabod are within walking distance and it’s convenient for the Ogwen Valley and Snowdon. 10 places booked – it should be possible to increase numbers if needed.

SUMMARY:Day walk on 7 April - North Downs
DESCRIPTION:Lesley is leading a walk on 7 April. Meet at the Reigate Heath parking area off the A25.  O S maps Explorer 146 or Landranger 187. Map ref is TQ 238503. Lesley says: the walk is about 10 miles and some of it could be quite muddy. The plan is to walk up to the North Downs and cross the motorway into Walton Heath and through to Walton on the Hill. We return via Banstead Heath to the delightful Sportsman pub at Mogador\, where we can get a pint\, but please bring sandwiches so that we are not there for too long. We then recross the motorway and follow the North Downs Way to Gatton and Nut Wood\, returning to Reigate Heath via the Greensand Way. There are excellent views across the Weald on this walk.

DESCRIPTION:Something a little bit different but good coastal walks around that area plus rock climbing and presumably good bike riding.   One of the highlights will probably be walking to Worth Matravers and that wonderful pub though!   Corfe Castle is another delight. \nhttps://www.swanageauberge.co.uk \nThe bunkhouse is slightly dearer than our normal BMC huts – approx £18 – £20 per person per night  but with the close locality to London etc (for Southerners anyway) savings on the petrol costs will mean that overall the weekend will probably not be as dear as going to the Lakes\netc.     This bunkhouse is situated in the middle of Swanage.

DESCRIPTION:Somewhere a bit different for this walk led by Sandy: a 12 mile (19 km for those metrically minded) circular walk from Oxted\, taking in the grounds of Chartwell House. Once we get out of Oxted\, nearly all the walk is through forest and parkland. Starting at 10 am blunt (if trains are running normally\, there will be one from Victoria/Clapham Junction arriving at 1001) from in front of Oxted station NOT the car park which it turns out is no longer free on Saturdays!

SUMMARY:Day walk at Box Hill\, 27 January
DESCRIPTION:The next day walk will be next Saturday 27 January meeting at 9.45am at the Rikers cafe car park just north of Burford Bridge. If you are travelling by public transport you can get the 465 bus from Kingston and Leatherhead\, or take the train to Box hill and Westhumble station which is a 15 minute walk from the start of the walk. \nThe walk will be approximately 9 miles long and includes Box Hill\, Norbury Park and Headley Health\, stopping for lunch at a local pub. There are many fine viewpoints on this circular walk and in several places you can see your earlier route from a new perspective.

SUMMARY:19-21 January: Winter visit to Rhyd-ddu
DESCRIPTION:Another visit to the Oread MC hut at Rhyd-ddu\, this time shared with the Southern Trekking and Mountaineering Club (STMC). That’s Sandy’s club and we thought it was worth joining forces for a winter  weekend. Those who have been there will know that this is a really well-placed hut for hill walks from the door in several directions\, including one of the best routes up Snowdon which the organiser didn’t find too hard on a previous January trip.

SUMMARY:1-3 December 2017: Christmas meet\, Welsh borders
DESCRIPTION:Overlooking the beautiful Ceiriog Valley and out towards the Berwyn Mountains on the English/Welsh borders – close to Oswestry. \nBunkhouse sleeping 22 people and including a very well equipped kitchen (even a dishwasher!) \nHorse riding\, cycle hire and archery are all available on site for anyone interested!  There is obviously some good walking to be done as well! \nCost is £20 per person per night – a little more than we usually go for but a bit of luxury never hurt anyone! and with it being nearer than the Lakes/Nth Wales you will be saving on petrol costs etc.
