DESCRIPTION:An 8-10 mile post-Christmas walk from Holmbury St Mary. Charmian is leading a walk along the Greensand Way to Leith Hill and then through woodland to Friday Street and back to the start point. The longer 10 mile option adds in Holmbury Hill. Weather permitting\, the views from both Holmbury and Leith Hill will be spectacular. \nPlease bring a picnic lunch and head torches (just in case)! DESCRIPTION:This will be a hilly 9.5 mile walk in Ashdown Forest. Because of the August heatwave\, Chris has wisely decided to reschedule it for September. It is in a central spot so you have some of the best views in all directions. It also takes you to the Ashdown Forest Visitor Centre. The walk has a variety of terrain\, including dense woodland\, streams and wide heathland. It is fine for wearing shorts. There will be stops for coffee/water\, lunch\, visitor centre and The Hatch pub 2(2 miles from the finish)\, so we are unlikely to finish until nearly 5 p m. DESCRIPTION:RESCHEDULED FROM 2020 – The Club is returning to Glenshiel Lodge (see website here) where we have had a couple of successful weeks in the past. We have had to move the booking again from 2021. Note this is a Sunday-Sunday booking. \nGlenshiel Lodge is just to the south of Shiel Bridge in Kintail\, literally in the shadow of the famous Saddle and Five Sisters of Kintail. There are 21 Munros in Glen Shiel no less\, and numerous other hills within striking distance\, not least those on the Isle of Skye. \nSorry this trip was FULLY BOOKED when it was planned for 2020; I will update this post if any places become available.

Hopefully there will be time for a swift drink at Thursley\, if the pub isn’t too busy and/or tea at the NT café at Hindhead. \nA less demanding option of around 7 ½ miles also available. \nMeet outside the NT café at Hindhead at 10.00 am. \n

SUMMARY:26-28 November: Shropshire; Christmas is not cancelled!
DESCRIPTION:Our December booking has been rearranged for the National Trust Dudmaston Bunkhouse\, situated in a quiet\, remote hamlet in the heart of the Shropshire countryside\, Dudmaston bunkhouse is a barn conversion to comfortable accommodation that sleeps 16 people.  The bunkhouse offers all the basic facilities you’ll need for your stay including some added extras. \nThe bunkhouse comes equipped with a multi-functional dining / meeting room with Wi-Fi and projector\, so it’s perfect for meetings and arranging activities whether that is for work or play.  All the communal rooms are on the ground floor and with a wet room and accessible bedroom\, everyone should feel included. The bunkhouse has nine bedrooms\, so although basic facilities\, guests only share a maximum of two to a room. \nAlthough it’s November\, we reckon Christmas pudding is allowed! \n

SUMMARY:18-22 October: Cornwall MIDWEEK MEET
DESCRIPTION:As we needed to find an alternative venue for October\, we have booked the NT’s Penrose Bunkhouse for four nights from Monday 18 October. This is a departure from our normal modus operandi but it gives us extra nights at a reasonable price close to\, but not in half term holidays and before the clocks change. \nIt’s located right on the South West Coast Path at Chyvarloe in Cornwall. Simple\, but with all the basic facilities you’d expect from a holiday property\, the bunkhouse is heated by a wood burning stove in the living room. But with spectacular sea views\, you probably won’t be spending much time indoors. \nEnjoy a bracing cliff-top stomp along the coast path\, or\, for something a little quicker\, jump on your bike and head out along one of the marked trails on the Penrose estate and around nearby Porthleven. \nWith so much on your doorstep\, including a beautiful beach at Gunwalloe\, you needn’t stray too far. But magnificent West Cornwall has a lot to offer\, not least the spectacular Lizard peninsula\, mainland Britain’s most southerly point. \n
