We had a an excellent weekend at High House in Borrowdale with better weather for some than others, good snow cover on Glaramara and a great curry on Saturday night.
Those of us who arrived on Friday night met some rather bedraggled walkers returning from Great/Green Gable, but Saturday started fair. Two parties headed for Glaramara and most of the rest for some lower hills further down the valley. The front group split in two as the two Tonys donned crampons and headed up the snowy wastes to Scafell Pike. The other two of us traversed Allen Crags and Glaramara, also snow-covered, and descended off the end of the ridge in beautiful late afternoon sunshine. Unfortunately it didn’t stay that way, leaving the second group to make a heroic direct descent from the summit of Glaramara to the hut in darkness. Full marks to Linda for getting everyone home safely. As mentioned above, the party of about 16 in total enjoyed an excellent meal in the hut on Saturday night with fine contributions from many members.
I was in the group who left on Sunday afternoon, after a rapid traverse of Dale Head and Robinson while others headed for Haystacks or round Buttermere. Let me know if I’ve missed anything major!
