In February we went up to the Coppermines valley above Coniston in The Lakes for more climbing. Most of us were there Friday morning when we all climbed The Old Man of Coniston above the hut and along the ridge over Swirl How and Wetherlam tops. The wind was ferocious although it was more or less behind us until it subsided a bit later. Anyway the views were very good although it was far from cloudless. A great day.

On Saturday we went back up The Old Man and this time turned west and went along the ridge and over Dow Crag and Buck Pike to Walnar Scar. The weather was very different – the tops were mostly in cloud but there was only a breeze. We were nestled in The Sun in Coniston soon after 4pm and trudged back up to the hut before dark to enjoy Bernadette’s very welcome cook-in.
On Sunday a route was taken beneath the clouds but over Blake Rigg to Tilberthwaite and Hodge Close quarries, and retuning via Yewdale Fells, but a full day nevertheless.
