Summer arrived early this year – just in time for our April weekend.
The NT hut was perched high in the hills between Charmouth and Golden Cap – and proved to be very comfortable apart from the ‘petite’ bedrooms – luckily some of us were able to make use of the lounge sofas instead!
Our walk on the Saturday saw us all head towards Golden Cap then on towards the east to finally reach Eype. At this point there was much discussion about going further and catching buses but in the end a walk back to the hut was agreed – albeit we ended up in 3 groups – each doing a slightly different route. The day had been really warm and sunny – shorts made their appearance even! Distance wise there was much discussion on whether the fit bits were accurate but in the end we agreed that we had probably covered 13 miles of very up and down terrain – I wonder how much ascent we actually did all told!
The next morning Brian departed on his motorbike to explore the back roads of Dorset – Alison returned home and the rest of us set out for Lyme Regis. This proved harder than expected due to path diversions and the heat (unbelievable!) but we eventually arrived at a very very busy Lyme Regis. Lunch was taken sitting on the edge of the beach then people went off to explore The Cobb and the town before catching the bus back to Charmouth where Chris very kindly offered to go and get his car and then take the other drivers back to collect their cars – this was very much appreciated – thank you Chris!
This was a new area for the club – except for those that have attended any of the camping weekends – and everyone thought it was well worth a return sometime in the future especially due to the short journey (ok I know the Friday traffic was a slight problem but normally it should only take 3 hrs from Kingston!) but it will always unfortunately only take 8 people so will always be a first come first served hut!
