A first visit to Dartmoor for many of us, staying at the Okehampton Youth Hostel which was well placed for Saturday’s expedition to Yes Tor, High Willhays and the beautiful West Okement valley with a fair bit of trackless moorland on the way. On Sunday the biggest group went to Postbridge and headed for Sittaford Tor, where a group of people walking off into the moor to stand in a circle alerted us to the location of a recently discovered stone circle, the highest in Britain. Some complicated transport arrangements allowed us to fit in a cream tea or beer at the pub with a permanent fire, until Charmian and Shira’s carriage arrived.
