Newlands Corner is a beautiful viewpoint and convenient free parking spot which will be well known to many people who visit the North Downs. The council is planning a major redevelopment which seems disproportionate and not in the interests of the walking community. It is hard to argue against rebuilding the toilets, which are pretty rank, but plans also include a large cafe blocking the view, coach park (presumably bringing hundreds of cafe-users who have no intention of walking anywhere) and the introduction of parking charges. This will cost £4 for any walk which lasts for over 4 hours.
